Boron is an essential micronutrient on the plant (in small quantity). It can be added to a fertilizer mixture specially formulated for cultivation or added if there is a sign of deficiency in plants. Boron is very immobile in the plant. Boron deficiency can cause death of the terminal bud and roots, a curved rod and brown spots on the stems. On those cruciferous it can cause the brown heart of roots and hollow stems. Boron deficiency can also cause the heart corky of apples, leaf discoloration and abnormal branching in alfalfa.
